The Light in Winter

This evening we went into the city with our good friends Julie, Craig, Hannah and Aidan to celebrate the Winter Solstice at Federation Square. It's the shortest day of the year and so we start the journey to Spring!
There was a variety of performances and exhibitions with the centre piece being an interactive light installation by UK architect Asif Khan. Over 2000 hand held 'egg lights' were handed out and we had to parade around the light installation. I do like a good parade! Highlights were a display of BMX stunt riding and an African drumming and dance group.
Alex has started taking photos... see some of his pics at the bottom (very avant-garde).

Portarlington Celtic Festival

We had a great day out at the Portarlington Celtic Festival on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. There were some great bands, Irish dancers and pipers. We also went on the Tall Ship, 'the Enterprize' which is an Australian built replica of John Pascoe Fawkner's schooner. The ship sailed from Tasmania in 1835 with the first white settlers that started what has become the city of Melbourne. Rog and I climbed the rigging and the kids wanted us to walk the plank.
The kids all tried on some amour (Sam looked like she was going to overbalance with the heavy helmet on her head!) and ate some tasty waffles with ice-cream.
