Australian National Karate Championships
Alex has been doing Karate for a couple of years now. He is in the Albert Park Dojo under the capable leadership of Sensei Lloyd.
Alex joined another 300 competitors at the Australian National Karate Championships in Melbourne. It was four days of seminars and competition and Alex even convinced me to have a go in the lessons.
Alex did really well and took part in two competitions the Kumite (sparring) and Kata (型 choreographed patterns of karate movements). He one bronze medals in each competition.

Middle Park Primary Carnivale
A great time was had by all at the Middle Park Primary School Carnivale. The weather was very kind (unlike in previous years when there had been a monsoon) and a record amount of money was made to benefit the school. Alex and Charlie each played the piano, (we were such proud parents!!), Alex went on all the rides multiple times with his friends until he felt sick and we all enjoyed watching our supercool Principal Tim rock the crowds with his band.

Healesville Sanctuary
We had a lovely day out at Healesville Sanctuary with our good friends Julie, Hannah and Aidan. We watched the bird flight show which was very cool, fed parrots, learnt about lots of different Australian wildlife and played in the mud.

Australia Day in Perth
Sorry for the silence. We've had a funny couple of months.... very busy what with one thing and another. I've taken on more at work and have been doing a lot of work with the College of Emergency Medicine, Roger has had a nasty chest infection and the kids have been settling back into school.
I took the kids over to Perth for a few days at the end of January to hang out with my brother Ed, Ness and his kids Jessica, Olivia and Max.
We had a wonderful time and the kids certainly had a lot of fun. It was Max's 7th birthday whilst we were there so we even had an excuse to celebrate. We took the kids to Adventure World, a local theme park with lots of water slides and plenty of other rides. Alex persuaded me to go on 'The Abyss' a $12 million roller coaster with speeds up to 85kph and 4.5G. Apart from feeling very old in the queue (it was mainly teenagers) it was great fun.
We also caught up with our good friends Hilda and Rob for a BBQ and watched the Australia Day fireworks on the banks of the Swan River.
